Bio

John Bryan is a passionate and dedicated member of the orchid growing community, with a background in building 5G network analytics support systems, focusing on ensuring cell quality of service. His professional pursuit of perfection has seamlessly translated into his personal hobby—orchid growing. Starting with little awareness of the existence of orchids, John’s curiosity and commitment have driven him to become one of the more accomplished growers in the hobby.

John’s journey began with a single Phalaenopsis orchid from a box store, but his enthusiasm and willingness to experiment led him to dive deeper into the world of orchids. By listening to experts, seeking knowledge, and continually refining his techniques, John’s collection has grown significantly. Today, it includes a wide variety of species, each with different growing conditions and needs.

Despite the progress he has made, John remains a perfectionist. He is never completely satisfied with where he is but is grateful to be part of a community of like-minded orchid enthusiasts who share his passion. This support system and exchange of knowledge fuel his continuous quest for growth—both as an orchid grower and as an individual.

Help endow the Deb Bodei Fukiran Award

The Deb Bodei Fukiran Award

In the fall of 2024, The American Orchid Society Board of Trustees voted to endow a special annual award in Deb’s honor. As Vanda falcata was previously genus Neofinetia, many still refer to these lovely plants as Neos. Deb had a passion for Vanda falcata and was instrumental in helping educate AOS judges and the general public about these wonderful plants.

Neo’s are diverse, and much like jewel or painted leaf orchids, are admired as much for their foliage as they are the flowers. Further, they are often displayed in beautiful pottery. In the true spirit of Fukiran, consideration for this annual award will review all quality awards, cultural awards and Judges Commendations for all Vanda falcata and its F1 hybrids that exhibit the true spirit of the Fukiran form in a given year.

Please consider supporting The Deb Bodei Fukiran Award endowment via Go Fund me, where all proceeds will go directly to the American Orchid Society as a permanently restricted donation.
